Latino Family Planning Project
The FRC is funded $38,000.00/year by the CDC and State Family Planning and Reproductive Health Unit to reach local Latino residents with information on family planning and health issues. The FRC has developed a model to accomplish this in the immigrant community. Again, this is in collaboration with other health care providers. In this case, the real challenge is to impact a culture perspective and knowledge of family planning issues. The Latino Family Planning Project model uses an online system to maintain consistent efforts to provide quality services for Latino Families in need in Chatham County.
In February 2005, the FRC was awarded $45,000.00 is extra funding to complete a 3 month "blitz" outreach program. 7 Lay Health Advisors (Promotoras) were hired and trained to be part of this campaign. 150 women were surveyed during the campaign to determine their family planning needs. The FRC will partner with Piedmont Health Services and the Chatham County Public Health Department to provide services in their Siler City offices to handle the increase of initial clients as a result of this campaign.
Between February 2005 and May 2008, over 599 women have been counseled on family planning and other health care issues.
